Concerning my last post...

My last post was met with some amount of hostility, and while some of the feedback was harsh I feel it was well deserved. Nothing drives me more than criticism. That said, I have revised the article into a manner that I hope is less dogmatic and just more informative.

After re-reading the article this morning, as I was trying to tweak it, I found many sections where my own fears and anger of past circumstances were glaring me in the face. This is not my intention for Craft Haven--to rant, and point fingers. I merely wish to be educational and to provide comfort to those seeking it. I will be more diligent here on out to make sure that I do not offend people. I am not naive in thinking that I can please everyone, but these past few hours have shown me that I can do much better.

If you wish to read the revised article, please refer to my last post for the link.

Pagan Sexuality

So recently I wrote an article about pagan sexuality. It was successful to a large degree. My goal was to be as upfront about the subject as I could be. You hear of so many people who mark sex as taboo, or they are at the very least embarrassed about the subject.

Why is this? The idea of sex ranges from an oppressed 'I am a sinner' view, to the carefree 'sex is a hobby' view. Where's the balance? I understand that the majority of people today grow up in households with parents whose best idea to keep their kid from 'promiscuity' is to tell them how wrong and disgusting sex is. What a mind trip!

I was part of a Christian family in my teens. My hormones were running wild around age seventeen. I was already inclined to be a 'rebel' and I can only imagine if my parents told me the above viewpoint. No doubt, I would only have gone to see for myself. Yet, I'm not like everybody. There are some people who take what their parents say as gospel (excuse the pun) and end up with their entire outlook on a life of love, tainted to a depressing degree.

What comes as a surprise is the look on peoples faces when they read that having safe and responsible sex is enjoyable. It widens peoples eyes with an expression of, "really?". Yes, really. Outside of being a responsible, loving adult, I don't feel that there should be any other sex rule. Sex is natural and should be enjoyed, not shunned. You shouldn't have to feel bad about it.

There are many other avenues I discussed in the article. If you would like to read it, just click here.

Hello everyone! This is officially my first post to this community, so I thought I would introduce myself. My pen/craft name is Marcus Briarstone, and I am a writer for a pagan informational website known as Craft Haven.

I am male, 26 years of age, and identify myself as an eclectic pagan. I do not follow a specific path as I find courage, strength, and harmony with most forms of earthen spirituality. I write to inform people of pagan history, celebrations, recipes, spells, and ultimately our common ground with many other faiths. It is through such that I find a sense of contentment; I drive myself to constantly update the website and provide accurate information through it, as well as my tweets on Twitter, and my posts here on Livejournal.

The website is a baby for now. There is a ton of work to do. My goal is to have it fully fleshed out with several hundred articles by the end of this summer--accurate and thought provoking articles.

I hope you all have a grand day. Thank you for reading this.

Merry Yule---time to go back in my cave?

Merry Yule!

With winter just about to start for many, and nearly half over for others, I'm finding it more and more tempting to roll the rock across the cave mouth for a nice rest again.

Okay, clearly it needs to be a cave with at least a hot spring, great lighting, no damp to speak off, and major book storage and pantry room...but still...

Happy Samhain!

I won't be around on the weekend, so best wishes to you all for Halloween and Samhain (and everything else)! Please post about what you've done and are doing.

Happy Equinox!

Happy Mabon / Ostara, everyone! I can't even begin to tell you how stoked I am for this time of year. Not that I don't love the autumnal equinox, but it always has me totally pumped in preparation for Samhain and Halloween. I've had the Halloween playlist out, I've been drinking apple cider, I've been contemplating this year's pumpkin carvings.

I just wanted to let you all know that seeing as tryst_inn was the singular entity volunteering to help out around here that she has obviously been chosen (THANKS!). However, I'd very much like to have a couple of people volunteer so we can really have a system of checks and balances. I don't think there's a lot going on here, so it will probably not be a very intensive job to do.

I'm not sure that I'll be adding anyone as maintainers (that would be loosening my control-freak grip), but I guess I should outline what I'd like a helper to do. Here goes...
  • If I forget a holiday, please make a post about it! The more paths we have represented here, the better, as I am forgetful and can only remember the most obvious holidays, at best.
  • Keep a casual eye out for anything inappropriate. If you're not a maintainer, you won't be able to delete anything, but I'll give you my email so you can contact me personally and I'll delete any offending posts or comments (in worst-case scenarios, I'll also take care of any banning).
  • Tag posts. It's an ugly job, but somebody's gotta do it. I'm not suggesting you scour the community, but if you notice an untagged post, you can fix it.

And if we can figure out some kind of repeating cycle of posts (to keep up community interest, promote discussion, whatever), then I'd like you to help execute that sort of thing as well. But as for now, no such thing is really working. Got ideas?

Hello! Who wants to help?

Hello, all. Please accept my formal apology for falling off the earth. I have just moved quite a ways from home and got the internet re-installed after some serious dicking around by the cable company. I will be more available now... but less available than I should be, as I've gotten into grad school and that will make me stupidly busy. I figured I should put it out here before I become totally bogged down and forget altogether. Would anyone like to help maintain this community? Keep it active? Squash n00b rioting? Tag posts?

The Goetia

I’m curious if anyone else has tried summoning the spirits that Crowley and Mathers wrote about in The Goetia. Now, I consider myself a novice at ritual magic (because I usually make my own spells and they are never the same each time), and like always, I tried to bend the rules. Anyway, what I did was write the spirit’s seal without a boundary. I sealed myself in the boundary, not the spirit (the reason I did this is because I always thought it was rude to bind spirits – especially if they have no choice in the matter). So I called upon FurFur and the spirit came. It didn’t say so much to me as, it just “looked” at me with curiosity. I left my offering and asked my question.

Needless to say, the recent 6 months have led to me finding the answer (although it was a very painful process), yet I can’t help wondering if I should have let an unbound spirit into the world. I’m curious to hear if anyone has had experience with The Goetia or if you have experience summoning spirits. What are your thoughts on this?

Jul. 10th, 2009

Greetings, I am a female witch with blood ties to Ireland, Germany, and the Black Foot Tribe in the US. I practice whatever comes out of me – a mix of learning from my ancestors and the amazing spiritual guides that I’ve met on my path. I love spells. I love making my own – especially when I tend and care for my plants and they tell me which one of them I need. For me witchcraft is more listening to the world around me than anything.

My best spells have been protection spells, my worst ones are love spells. Oh goddess, don’t even get me started on how disastrous my love spells turn out!

Anyways, it’s amazing to find a forum such as this. Greetings to all!

Hello! I just joined the group and am looking forward to participating. I am a male witch wed to Freyja and dedicated to Freyr. In other words, I am Vanatru. However, being Vanatru does not mean that I am a (Neo)Heathen. I am not a (Neo)Heathen nor am I of the Northern Shamanic Tradition or any other group. I practice as a solitary eclectic and use various methods of divination and magic.
